If you need a Christmas treat to bring to a school party, set out for guests, or pack into a gift box, these reindeer nose treats are the ones to make. They come together in about 15 minutes, look like you spent way longer on them, and use ingredients you can grab on a single Target or Giant run. The red nose makes them instantly recognizable as a Christmas treat. No decorating skills required.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • 3 ingredients, no decorating skills. Pretzels, Rolos, and a single M&M each. The oven is on for under 5 minutes just to soften the Rolos enough to press the M&M into. No piping, no candy melts.
  • Looks like you tried way harder than you did. The red-nose-on-pretzel shape is instantly recognizable as a Christmas treat. Set them on a tray and people assume you spent an hour on them.
  • Kids can actually help. Peeling Rolos and pressing M&Ms are jobs a 4-year-old can handle start to finish — not the “kids can stir the batter” version of helping where you redo it after.
  • Sweet and salty in one bite. The pretzel base balances the Rolo’s caramel-and-chocolate so the whole thing doesn’t read as too sweet. That’s why this works at a buffet next to other Christmas desserts.
  • School-party and gift-box ready. Travel well in a Tupperware, stack cleanly in a tin lined with parchment, and don’t fall apart on the drive over.

Ingredients

Reindeer noses-rolo pretzel bites ingredients.
  • Pretzels. Mini twist pretzels are my pick. They give you the Reindeer Nose look most readers expect. Square pretzel snaps work too if you want a bigger flat surface for assembly.
  • Rolo candies. Soft caramel inside a milk chocolate shell. Rolos melt evenly on top of the pretzel without needing any tempering or technique. The kids can help peel the wrappers off.
  • M&M’s. A red M&M for the classic Rudolph nose, or mix red and green M&Ms across the tray for a Christmas-color spread. Press them onto the warm Rolos right after baking so they stick.

See recipe card below for exact measurements.

Substitutions and Variations

  • Square pretzel snaps instead of mini twists. Snaps have a wider flat surface, which makes them easier for younger kids to assemble. Use them if you’re swapping the Rolo for something bigger like a mini peanut butter cup.
  • Gluten-free pretzels. Snyder’s gluten-free minis (purple bag, in the GF aisle at most grocery stores) work the same way as regular minis.
  • Hershey’s Kisses instead of Rolos. Same melting behavior, no caramel center. Try the holiday peppermint or candy cane Kisses for a flavor twist.
  • Mini peanut butter cups instead of Rolos. Pair these with snap pretzels. They’re bigger than Rolos and need more surface area underneath to balance.
  • Dark chocolate squares instead of Rolos. Use a square of a dark chocolate bar if Rolos are too sweet for your crowd. Less caramel, richer chocolate flavor.
  • Skip the red M&M. For a no-red-dye version, press a pecan, almond, or piece of dried cranberry into the warm caramel instead. Reese’s Pieces also work if you want to keep the candy-nose look.

How to Make Reindeer Noses – Rolo Pretzel Bites

Pretzels spread out on a sheet pan.

1. Arrange the square pretzels neatly in a row on your parchment paper-lined baking sheet, ensuring a small gap between each.

    2. Add one Rolo candy on top of each pretzel square.

      3. Place it in the oven to let the Rolo melt slightly.

        4. Gently press an M&M on top of the kiss, creating the reindeer’s nose. Let them cool, then store them in an airtight container.

        Storage

Room temperature: Let the treats cool completely (the chocolate needs to set and harden) before storing. Place them in an airtight container in a cool, dry spot away from direct sunlight. Stack with parchment or wax paper between layers to prevent sticking. Keep up to 1 week.

Refrigerator: If your kitchen runs warm or you live in a warm climate, store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Same airtight container, same parchment between layers.

Freezer: Freeze for up to 1 month. Lay them in a single layer on a baking sheet to freeze first, then transfer to a freezer-safe zip-top bag. Thaw at room temperature for 30 minutes before serving.

        FAQs

hree things to check: the pretzels weren’t sitting flat-side-up before baking, the oven ran too hot and the Rolos liquefied instead of softening, or you pressed the M&M too hard and squeezed the warm caramel out the sides. Use a flat tray, bake at 350°F, and press the M&M with light pressure.

Yes. Make them 2 to 3 days before a gift exchange or party. That gives the chocolate time to fully set so the treats stack cleanly, but not so far ahead that the pretzels lose their crunch. Store airtight at room temperature with parchment between layers.

They use the same base technique but they’re different recipes. Reindeer Nose Treats are a pretzel, a Rolo, and a single red M&M for the nose — quick to assemble when you need a big batch. Rolo Pretzel Reindeer build out the full reindeer face with additional candy pieces for antlers and eyes. Use Reindeer Noses when speed matters, the full Reindeer when you have time to decorate.

Hershey’s Kisses are the closest swap, especially the caramel-filled variety, since they melt the same way. A square of milk chocolate from a chocolate bar also works in a pinch. Mini peanut butter cups work too if you switch to square pretzel snaps so there’s enough surface area underneath.
